Welcome. My name is Alda Gomez and I have a Master’s degree in counselling and psychotherapy obtained in Ireland.
Originally from Spain, I spent most of my adult life living in other countries: France (3 years), Portugal (6 months), Ireland (15 years), and since 2014 I have my permanent residence in Devon (UK). Change, transitions, languages and valuing differences have been a constant in my life.
With a background in languages, I discovered that counselling works when I was offered a job working as an interpreter in counselling sessions, mediating between therapists and clients at the Centre for the Care of Survivors of Torture in Dublin, Ireland. It was an epiphany that changed my life, as I discovered my true vocation: becoming a counsellor. I saw how clients arrived depressed, their shoulders liveless hanging from their arms. In a few sessions, they would arrive more straight and uplifted. They were still loaded with their suffering, but hope had returned to them.
After those rich experiences as a witness, I qualified as a counsellor and psychotherapist (Level 9). I have been providing counselling for many people, witnessing the same changes and progress in my own clients. In Ireland, I worked in a mainstream counselling centre (Living Life), in private practice and in the Centre for the Care of Survivors of Torture.
Since 2014, I have my private practice for counselling and psychotherapy in Exeter (in a cozy room in the heart of Gandy St.) and in Teignmouth (at walking distance to the train station and the sea) in Devon, UK.
I currently offer individual counselling and psychotherapy in Exeter and Teignmouth to many diverse people who struggle in life, with issues such as:
- Loss, grief & mourning;
- Sexual abuse & rape;
- Anger processing;
- Relationship & intimacy issues;
- Identity & cultural issues;
- Anxiety & PTSD.
As a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), I abide by its code of ethics, including maintaining confidentiality, working closely with a supervisor, and being actively involved in the profession through continuous professional development. I have CPD training in the areas of trauma, HIV, suicide, sandtray therapy and multicultural counselling. I am also an active tai chi and qi gong practitioner, having shared my knowledge of these healing practices with many people for over 7 years.
My background in languages makes it possible for me to work as a counsellor in English, Spanish and French.
